Kelly McClendon, a long-time church member and recent elder, answered some questions about following Jesus and serving our church community.
How did you come to Cornerstone?
The church we were attending was getting so big that we felt we could not serve and participate in the community anymore. Our friends tried Cornerstone, so we tried it too! And stayed.
You were an elder in our community. What does being an elder mean to you?
One of the many things it means is serving by encouraging the pastors. That was the elder charge I was surprised about and a role that became important for me to do.
Are there any passages of Scripture that were meaningful to you while you were an elder?
”People are trapped by their fear of others; those who trust the Lord are secure.” Proverbs 29:25 (CEB) This came to mean that as an elder, I should follow God’s lead and not be afraid of man.
You’ve recently gotten involved with our worship ministry. What drew you to that?
The need of a sound person, and it was a way for me to participate and give a little during worship.
What is the best thing to you about following Jesus?
Hope.
